Kolkata: BJP supporters allegedly vandalised Gurap police station on Thursday in the name of submitting deputation regarding an incident, which took place on Wednesday night.According to the police, several police personnel were injured as BJP supporters pelted stones at the police station. According to sources, on Wednesday night, the on-duty officer at Gurap police station was informed about a person who suffered a head injury after a clash broke out between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress at Bathangaria village. After the police was informed, a team from Gurap police station went to Bathangaria to investigate the case. While going to the village, the police saw a bike parked on a narrow road blocking vehicle movement. When a policeman asked the owner of the bike to remove the vehicle, he allegedly used abusive language to address the officer. The police officer warned the man who called local residents stating that police were harassing him. It is alleged that when a villager tried to snatch the service revolver from the police officer, a bullet was fired accidentally. The bullet hit the chest of a man identified as Joychand Malik. As soon as villagers saw Malik falling on the ground, they started beating up the police personnel and vandalised the police van. After a while another police van reached the area to rescue their colleagues. This van was also vandalised. Police personnel somehow managed to run from the spot. Later a huge police force went to the spot brought the situation under control. On Thursday, the BJP alleged that the police intentionally fired and went to Gurap police station to submit a deputation. They started pelting stones on police personnel and police station. Two police vans were vandalised. At least seven police personnel were injured. Later huge police force along with Rapid Action Force (RAF) fired tear gas shells and brought the situation under control. No one has been arrested till Thursday night. “We are probing the matter. The bullet was fired accidentally when some villagers tried to snatch the service revolver from the officer,” said Sukhendu Hira, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Hooghly (rural) District Police.
