Sarri declares Fabregas should leave Chelseaby Freddie Taylor10 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveChelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has backed Cesc Fabregas’ departure from the club. The 31-year-old is on the verge of joining Monaco, managed by his former teammate Thierry Henry.Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final against Tottenham, Sarri said: “I can say only my opinion, I don’t know the decision of the club. [And] in my opinion he needs to go.”At this club there’s a rule, the renewal of players over 30 is for one year. I don’t want a player as important as Cesc unhappy.”I don’t know, yesterday he had a free day for the injury, so I don’t know.” TagsTransfersAbout the authorFreddie TaylorShare the loveHave your say
Lampard: Why it didn’t work at Chelsea for Salahby Paul Vegasa month agoSend to a friendShare the loveChelsea boss Frank Lampard admits he knew Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah was destined for bigger things when they played together.Salah moved to Stamford Bridge in 2014 but struggled for game time under Jose Mourinho and made just 19 appearances for the club before joining Roma.Lampard was a team-mate of the Egyptian for six months before his own Chelsea career came to an end that summer.”Unfortunately for Mo, it didn’t work out here but it is great credit to him. He went to Italy and then came back and now he’s a superstar,” said Lampard.”As for his path, it’s hard to compare what might have been. The talent was obviously there.”At the time, I think we had a lot of options in attacking areas. Number 10s, wingers, and he didn’t get as many opportunities for whatever reason, but yes, you could see the talent was there.”But the player that he is now, or that came back to Liverpool, I think you have to say huge credit is due. You don’t have to search for anything more than look at Mo himself.”You have to say what professionalism and work ethic, to leave a club like Chelsea is not easy.”People then cast you aside and say you won’t make it there. He went on to be the superstar he is now. It is completely credit to Mo himself.” TagsTransfersAbout the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your say
About the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your say Man Utd defender Maguire fears dodgy club form hurting Englandby Paul Vegas13 days agoSend to a friendShare the loveManchester United defender Harry Maguire fears club issues are having a negative effect on England’s beleaguered defenders.Maguire concedes that club struggles may be hurting international form.He said: “Maybe it is a confidence thing because we bring our club football to the international level.“It was a difficult game. We started sloppy and we took the lead in the game when we probably didn’t deserve to.“In the second half, we controlled the game a lot more but we gave them a sloppy goal to win the game.“So we do need to improve on that. It’s hard to lose any football game, but we were not at our best and got punished.”
Arsenal remain in talks with Barcelona over the loan signing of Denis Suarez until the end of the season as Unai Emery looks to bolster his squad in January.Emery, along with head of football Raul Sanllehi, has identified the 25-year-old as a player to bolster the Gunners’ attacking options, with the versatile midfielder set to be reunited with a man who managed him at Sevilla during the 2014-15 season.Suarez labelled Emery as “one of the best coaches around” at the time, and it is clear that he feels his compatriot would get the best out of him at the Emirates Stadium. He really gets the best out of us,” Suarez told UEFA’s official website. “He considers each and every one of his players and always puts those who are in the best possible shape in his starting lineup. I have been playing for him for a year and I am really happy. “He always talks to you, both in good moments – to prevent you being distracted – and bad, to help you recover. The way he treats players is exceptional.”But where would he fit into Emery’s system in north London? When questioned over where Suarez could play if he came to Arsenal, Emery mentioned that he played as a “left or right winger” during his spell at Sevilla. However, at Barcelona he has played in both central midfield and on the flanks. He is predominantly right-footed but has featured on the left at Barca where he regularly cuts inside and feeds the forward players with his pin-point passing.Although Arsenal have played with wingers sporadically this season, Emery is convinced that Suarez’s arrival would bolster their options on the flanks due to Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s inconsistency and Alex Iwobi yet to produce regular goals and assists in attackSuarez can also play in central midfield which will come in handy when Aaron Ramsey leaves for Juventus this summer, especially if the Gunners do activate a clause to buy the Spaniard.Former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique once touted Suarez as Andries Iniesta’s long-term replacement and it’s clear that his versatility and technical ability are the two main reasons why Emery wants him at Emirates Stadium”Why not? Players have to evolve. He has to improve. Iniesta is Harry Potter, he makes magic, and it is difficult to find another. But Denis is on the right path and I hope he can be Iniesta’s heir. “Denis is the youngest player in the squad and one of the few players to leave Barca B and be able to return. That is because of taking care of the ball but also working hard off the ball, which some players forget about. “You have the ball for a minute or a minute-and-a-half in the game, so if you do not do well without it, you have no chance at this level. Denis understands that and he is well loved by his team-mates.”Suarez will almost certainly fit into any system that Emery deploys and if the loan deal is completed this month it won’t be a surprise to see him playing in both central midfield and on the flanks, as has been the case during his time at Barcelona.

But it is true that there have been discussions with agents.”But while Liverpool may have interest in Pepe, they are not the only ones, according to Lopez.Currently on duty with Ivory Coast, who play Mali on Monday in the Africa Cup of Nations last-16, Pepe was the subject of a pair of offers from unnamed teams prior to the tournament in Egypt, according to Lopez. But Pepe did not want to have to decide his future during the tournament and Lille have decided to respect his wishes.”We had two offers before the Africa Cup of Nations,” Lopez said. “We’ll see after that, my position was to see if we could not do something before it, we had two proposals before it, I had two clubs.“The agents, with whom we have good relations, have asked us a little time to look at other options. It is not Lille who discusses alone. The player has of course the right to have preferences.“At the beginning of the Africa Cup of Nations, he said that being in a competition like this and having your mind to something else, it’s complicated.“It is a big career choice. Frank Lampard praised Christian Pulisic’s desire to get started on his Chelsea career quickly and believes the young American will be a big signing for the Blues. Pulisic put years of Premier League transfer speculation to rest when he signed with Chelsea on a £57 million ($72m) deal in January, though he finished out the 2018-19 season with Borussia Dortmund on loan. The 20-year old just completed the Gold Cup with the U.S. national team, where he scored three goals and added three assists as he guided the Americans to the final. Ox-rated! Dream night in Genk for Liverpool ace after injury nightmare Messi a man for all Champions League seasons – but will this really be Barcelona’s? Though the USMNT fell to rivals Mexico in the final, Pulisic was named the tournament’s best young player for his performances. And while the Gold Cup final was only July 7, Lampard confirmed Pulisic will cut any prospective vacation short to join up with Chelsea next week, just nine days after the Mexico defeat. “Christian joins us on Tuesday,” Lampard told reporters. “He’s had a short break, but he wanted to get back with us quickly, which I certainly appreciate.” The manager likened the decision to something he would have done, and credits Pulisic with having a bright future with the club. “I appreciate that [coming straight off the Gold Cup],” Lampard added. “It’s how I would have been. “It’s a big move for him to a huge club. He’s a top young player. He’s only going to go one way in terms of his career – he’s going to go up and be a big signing for Chelsea. I hope so. I look forward to working with him. “It’s important we start the season as well as we can. I know we have injuries – people back at Cobham now that are influential players for us at similar positions, so we’ll need him.” Chelsea defender David Luiz also praised Pulisic’s talent and indicated the club want to help him reach his potential at Stamford Bridge. “Pulisic is another top player, top talent, and young,” Luiz said. “He just finished the last tournament very well, trying to do the best for the USA. For sure we’re going to wait for him here to help him develop as soon as possible.” Chelsea head to Japan for the next stage of their pre-season, facing Kawasaki Frontale on July 17 followed by contests against Barcelona, Reading, Red Bull Salzburg and Borussia Monchengladbach before starting their Premier League season against Manchester United on August 11. Tanguy Ndombele says his first experience of Premier League football was more intense than what he was used to in his native France.Tottenham’s record signing made an impression on his first outing, scoring a superb equaliser to help his side come from behind to beat Aston Villa. His rifled half-volley from the edge of the area was followed by a brace from Harry Kane, with Spurs making the perfect start to the new season. It was difficult for me. The football moves quicker here, there is more intensity.“In France, often when you win the ball you try to calm the play down, but here you try to push forward immediately. And I am going to try to adapt as quickly as possible.“This is a nice squad, the young ones as well as the older ones, the squad seems quite harmonious, it is a squad that has gotten close over several years. I am just trying to integrate and do what is needed on the pitch.”Ndombele had an impressive debut for Spurs overall, his ball progression through midfield reaping more reward once the added guile of Christian Eriksen was brought from the bench.Villa certainly gave Mauricio Pochettino’s side a scare but there was plenty to be optimistic about with Ndombele’s fellow arrivals yet to feature.Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon, both signed on deadline day, will be eased into the first-team picture while Dele Alli is working his way back from injury.Ndombele is set for another intense game next week. Tottenham’s first away game of the season sees them travel to reigning Premier League champions Manchester City, who started the defence of their title in ominous form.City weren’t at their best against West Ham but weathered an early storm to win 5-0 in a game defined by Raheem Sterling’s hat-trick and some hairline offside calls from VAR.After the City game, Spurs host Newcastle before the first North London derby of the season at the Emirates on September 1.
