There were a few players at the club with a stomach ache so we just presumed that it was that.“It was no fault of the medical staff, they treated me fantastically. But I was at home and had to be rushed to hospital.“Thankfully, I had the procedure straight away. I was very fortunate. It was just difficult afterwards, I kept on getting ill.”Dier’s return to action was delayed because of a string of illnesses. He said: “It was all because of the appendix. My immune system really struggled with medicine after the appendix.“People said I was injured but I was never injured, I just kept on falling ill, which was very frustrating.”3 Dier, 25, has appeared in just five games under Mauricio Pochettino this campaignCredit: AP:Associated PressI was very fortunate. It was a very strange experience.”Dier was outstanding as he made only his third start of the season at centre-back in the 4-0 win at Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League on Wednesday. With Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen both out of contract at the end of the season, the former Sporting Lisbon trainee showed he might be the answer to Spurs’ central defensive problems.Asked if he is back to his best, Dier said: “I’ve just been very unfortunate.
